"The Pursuit of Happiness"

The Oaks Brasserie, Yarralumla Gallery
Yarralumla, Canberra, ACT

27 May - 30 June 2012
Opening - Sunday 27 May at 3pm

This is a solo exhibition featuring paintings from my recent trip to the land of castles and dreams - France. It will also showcase the beauty of the Bush Capital and my love of bushland, flowers, stones, shells and 'all things created, not made'.

My trip in September last year took me to an area I had never seen before - the west side of France - where castles abound and history speaks to you from every stone.

Previous exhibitions include:

"An Artist's Journey" - This Exhibition was held at the Belconnen Arts Centre, Canberra from April 15 to May 8, 2011.

It told of my artistic journey from early influences of Van Gogh's life - catching his passion for the vision of 'the moment'. With me, inspiration is everything. Subjects can vary from sunlight splashing across my studio table to a rugged day on the Turon River near Bathurst, with the wind whipping the clouds along, changing the sunshine and shadow; a gift of flowers or a quiet corner of my garden; the dog asleep at my feet; the views garnered from on high, flying in small planes and helicopters; and the delights of places near and far.

I would like to say a big thank you to all those who came. What a lovely crowd there was at the Opening. A very special thanks to Sylvie Stern for opening the Exhibition and to family, friends and my own students who excelled themselves in the culinary department. There is no doubt the venue suited my work. The vast spaces of the foyer especially enhanced my large aerial work. A pity I was running late and didn't photograph them all.

"Catching the Vision" - An exhibition of watercolours by Jan Vincent and her emerging artists

The Exhibition was held from May 28 - 30 and featured a selection of my watercolours and those of my current students. The Opening Night was a wonderful success. Over the weekend many people came to view the art and were very enthusiastic about the quality of all the art works. We sold quite a number of paintings and one of my students sold one painting and was then commissioned by the buyer to paint another. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful experience.

"The Journey"

Thank you for your support of The Journey.

My exhibition in the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre from 15 August to 13 September 2009 was a life-affirming experience. The gallery space was awesome.

I want to thank all those responsible for the exhibition, in particular Peter Gill for inviting me to exhibit and for hanging the works beautifully, the Director, Bradford Frank and staff members.

The exhibition was opened by Margaret Sivyer, the Director of the newly-opened Maitland City Art Gallery. The Mayor of Muswellbrook, Martin Rush spoke, as did my fellow artist, Dorothee Heibel.

In my speech I was able to convey my belief that a good teacher is one who sets others on their own path, like my high school art teacher, Joy Palfrey (now Mrs McGee) who wasn't able to be present.
